Our Youth Programme

At Two Gates Fisheries, we’re proud to support the young people of Barnsley, such as Kate (left) and Ella (right), with our own youth programme.

How do we support the young people of Barnsley?

Not only do we pay above the minimum wage, we also offer our own youth programme; which entails opportunities in the workplace, a high standard of training, regular meetings about progression and areas to improve on, encouragement, support, career advice and more. We also do what we call “a cheeky tenner”, when a staff member has gone above and beyond, they receive an extra £10 in their wage. Both Kate and Ella have been part of our youth programme and are now studying degrees.

Kate has been with us for 3 years, starting as a pot washer and progressing to duty manager, to now studying Criminology. When we asked Kate how our youth programme has helped her get to where she is now, she expressed: “The youth programme has definitely helped my confidence. Having to speak to people everyday at the chippy has made me more comfortable with communication and engaging in conversation.”

Ella has been with us for 18 months and is now studying to become a teacher. When asked how Two Gates has contributed to her progression, she stated: “I’d say that this job has allowed me to feel more confident and able to pursue more opportunities. My family and friends have also all commented on how much working has improved my skills and general outlook.”

We’d like to congratulate Kate and Ella on their progress with us and going on to further study. We wish them the very best with their studies!
